It's hard to believe but the hardest aspect of
organising my recent wedding wasn't the wedding; it was
deciding where to go on honeymoon.
My other half isn't a huge fan of sun worshipping, I am -
he prefers exploring, with a dash of history and a splash of
adrenaline thrown in. Our honeymoon date of late August also meant
that many exotic quintessential honeymoon destinations were either
a washout or not at their best.
Luckily for us the suggestion of Bermuda was
raised, I'll be honest it wasn't a destination on my bucket list
but now, after our amazing honeymoon and being tickled pink by its
famous pink sandy shores, I can't believe everyone isn't flocking
there. It's a stunning and exclusive destination and I'm sure there
are many who want to keep it to themselves, so I'll let you in on
the secret: it's stunning, with lush tropical interiors, friendly
locals and it's packed with historic sites like St George's
Town, first settled in 1612.
For us it proved to be the perfect destination for our
honeymoon, with each and every requirement from our extensive wish
list well and truly ticked!
Thanks to the Gulf Stream, the island boasts warm waters
and a stable climate throughout the year, ensuring that whatever
your passion, there's a wide variety of activities on offer. And
for those seeking a romantic getaway, look no further, as Bermuda's
combination of natural delights are complemented by candle-lit
meals, horse-drawn carriage rides and sunset cruises
galore.
We stayed behind the Moon Gate on Kings Point Road,
the Moon Gate is a
circular opening in a garden wall, regarded as good luck for
newlyweds to step through and this particular one led to a hotel
that is the very essence of a romantic vision. Cambridge Beaches
Resort & Spa nestles on a 25 acre peninsula surrounded by four
beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters, numerous sandy coves and
some spectacular views.
It's the island's only luxury resort catering exclusively
to adults with couples treated to moonlight dinners on a secluded
beach, plush oceanfront cottage suites, some with private plunge
pools; an award-winning spa and the opportunity to sample champagne
picnic lunches in a tropical garden hideaway. It's so good that
they have a large wall listing the names of guests who've returned
not once but anywhere from five to eighty times!
Located in the area of Somerset, its a 50 minute drive
from Bermuda International Airport but only 10 minutes from Royal
Naval Dockyard the for a spot of retail therapy and
sightseeing. Back at the resort and you're never far from one
of four gorgeous beaches, so whatever you do you'll want to take to
the waters around the peninsular, which are crystal clear and
teaming with marine life. Turtles are familiar site and we were
greeted by one whist snorkelling just a few feet from the shore in
Mangrove Bay; it was an experience that neither of us will ever
forget.
Call it kismet but I'm a firm believer our honeymoon was
meant to me, it opened my eyes to an exciting destination that my
husband and I can't wait to return to, possibly to celebrate our
paper anniversary. Then who knows give us another four decades and
we may well head up that guest wall - well a girl can
dream!
